SPRAWKA
Jolanta Sprawka was born in Poland during the time of communism in a family of regime
opponents. Since childhood she tried to express herself through art. She first
studied music and later English philology at the University of Warsaw. Sprawka left
Poland at the time of a serious political crisis for Morocco which became her
second country of adoption. There she had the opportunity to take training in
dance, performance and painting. Immigration to Quebec allowed her to
consolidate her knowledge of the different artistic expressions and to widen
them to the visual arts, more particularly the installation, the performance
and the painting and to follow specialized workshops with recognized Quebec
artists in sculptures, installation and in performance. Her art language is
based on the experiences gained from living in different cultures where the
human aspect serves as a frame in the creative process. Artist did several solo
and group exhibitions, participated in international land art projects, artist
residencies in Canada, Greece and Mexico. Recently she finished an in-situ
installation project for the art museum in Oaxaca, Mexico.
